Who the tool helps
If you pay an overseas supplier, receive a foreign-currency payment or check international payments for a business, a visible transfer fee may tell only part of the story. The checker helps you separate the conversion cost from a confirmed SWIFT or transfer charge on outward and inward ZAR payments.
What the check uses
Payment details come from a confirmation or manual entry. The tool compares the supplied conversion amounts with an available historical market reference near the payment time, then presents the estimated FX spread and the confirmed separate fee. Check the amounts, payment direction, date, time and fee information used before relying on the result.
The worked calculation example explains the inputs and result labels using synthetic outward and inward payments.
What an estimate can tell you
Results depend on the payment information supplied, document quality and the historical rate available. A reference rate is a comparison point, not a promise that you could have traded at that rate. An unclear or missing deduction needs confirmation from the payment provider.
Use the breakdown to ask better questions about a completed payment. It does not prove an overcharge or wrongdoing, provide a live transfer quote or guarantee savings. Estimates and guides are general information, not financial advice.
Our guides and their sources
Guides are published under the FX Fee Finder brand. Each guide displays an update date and a sources section so you can read the supporting material in context. Worked examples are synthetic and do not represent a customer payment or a current provider quote.
A cited source provides background on the topic; it does not mean that the organisation endorses FX Fee Finder. Provider terms and payment routes differ, so confirm the charges applying to your transaction with your provider. Browse the international payment fee guides.
